I had never been on the road for 24 hours till I was admitted to the University.
If you don’t believe in you playing a part in shaping your destiny, I think you should probably turn over a new leaf today.
Have you ever been on the road for that long?
While living in the North, Minna was the first and farthest place I think I travelled to alone.
Minna is a story for another day, I remember meeting the 2 Joshuas, they lived outside the campus, a very rocky area.
I also remember seeing a Spirit around 4 am while doing dishes outside the student private hostel. This wasn’t a trance or dream, it was actually very lucid.
Believe me, I didn’t do those dishes till around 8 am.
I went to Minna alone not knowing a single soul, but I lived like a King and encountered destiny there.
If you don’t believe in destiny and God, you should probably, sorry, I mean it, turn over a new leaf right now.
Back to my 24-hour trip to the ends of the earth.
In my last letter to you, friend, I talked about the ‘environment’ by sharing a story from the CEO of Salesruby.
Today, we continue from where I stopped.
It’s my deepest interest to write to you weekly, twice actually.
I pray I turn a new leaf starting this month.
I know right, don’t worry, the newsletter is not about leaves.
About not writing to you often, it’s actually my fault, friend. You see, Life will bring distractions and troubles. You have to keep strategizing on how to be ahead of it. But sometimes I remember that quote by Mohammed Ali.
Yes, the quote about getting punched.
So, let’s freshen up our discussion on the importance of having the best environment at all times.
Coming to Lagos was my first 24-hour trip by road.
Meeting a friend on campus that month changed a lot to date.
I remember that day, as I was whisking away as a JJC on the campus of Lagos State University while reminiscing about this new journey I’m about to start.
JJC simply means – Google it (Lol)
I met Promise Ulihifun at the Departmental Office walking towards me and we immediately linked up talking.
That was the beginning of a friendship that improved my writing skills and also introduced me to a new online environment.
For context – I met John Obidi, Emeka Nobis, Mute Efe and others through him.
Through these people, I met other great minds like Ronald, Toyin Omotosho, Akin Alabi and Emmanuel Johnson. I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with Mr Emmanuel after graduating.
We have the physical environment and then the virtual environment.
Your environment will determine how hungry you become or how comfortable you are with your current level.
Changing a physical environment might be very expensive but a virtual environment is a bit easy to change.
You start with the people you follow, what you consume, and who inspires you.
There are some people I don’t follow because I know they will pollute my mind and environment.
They will reconfigure my subconscious.
Entrepreneur Phil Levin on the importance of neighbourhoods:
“You are going to spend 1000x more time in your surrounding 5 blocks than you will in any other neighbourhood in your city.
Thinking about all the things that New York City has—or the next city has—is a lot less important than thinking about the things within the five blocks where you live.
Most neighbourhoods in your city you might never step foot in. They might as well be in the other side of the country.
But the things in your immediate vicinity are the things that are going to dominate your life.
So picking and influencing your neighbourhood is really important… the neighbourhood determines quite a bit about our life and our happiness.

Deciding your Environment
You need to carefully pick the people you follow or listen to.
You also need to pick only those that are helpful to your higher vision.
If you are seeking Spiritual Growth – picking gossip accounts to follow isn’t the right way for you. But following men who pray and preach the word of God will do you good.
If you are fighting an addiction, you need to move everything that can trigger that out of your environment.
I recently moved and changed my physical environment. Which is because of the next phase of my vision.
But, you see the virtual community, I subscribe and unsubscribe daily. I follow and unfollow daily.
I stay off some things because I have defined what I want in my environment.
Have you defined what you want?
That will determine your physical and virtual environment.
The groups you join, the channels you follow and much more.
Even the friends you let in.
Your environment is key to changing your life.
While I grew up in Zaria, Kaduna, the majority of what defined my life there was the way I shaped my ‘mind environment’.
You are wondering what the mind environment is.
I will be writing to you again.
Talk soon, Friend.
Action Steps
- What people, groups, and channels do I need to unfollow?
- What do I really want that is in line with my Life’s meaning?
- Follow people on the same journey as you. Even those ahead of you.
Birthday Plans
For my Birthday – 28th August
I have a list of things I want to do:
- Launch my Website
- Host a few friends for a get-together. (Most said Yes already)
- Still thinking of other things.
The last time I hosted my friends for my birthday, they gifted me their blood.
Lol, that sounds dark. Let me clarify.
We went to donate blood at a General Hospital. So this year, maybe the same or something different like an orphanage home, I have been there and to slums multiple times over the years.
If you would like to donate or gift me personally, please message me on IG – @thesamfemi
