On Grief, Growth, and Giving Everything You Have to the Life You Are Building
That word means something relevant, something that truly matters. And everything in this letter does.
You have been on my mind for weeks now and I could not wait any longer to put these thoughts down for you. If you are just joining us, welcome. This is a place of love and honesty where we put everything on the table. We pick insights from life and from tech and we share them freely because that is the only way any of this works.
What I Have Been Reading
This month I managed to read two full books and I am currently working through my third.
The two I finished were Unfuck Yourself by Gary John Bishop and Small Business Big Money by Akin Alabi.
Both were worth every page.
Reading continues to be one of the most reliable ways I know to grow. There is something almost magical about sitting with the thinking of someone who has walked a road you are trying to walk and letting their hard-won insights reshape the way you see things. Every book I finish reminds me that the knowledge we carry has the potential to change someone else’s life too.
Which brings me to something I want to say directly to you: do not hold back from sharing what you know.
Do not be the person who only consumes and never gives back. Giving is not just generosity. It is a way of making room for more to come in. It keeps you fresh, relevant, and connected to the flow of growth around you.
Nothing in life was designed to stay still. Even non-living things go through processes to remain valuable. If you want to remain valuable, you have to keep feeding yourself and keep giving back from what you receive.
I came across a post recently by Alex Iheancho where he shared that after speaking at an event he went straight to a bookstore. His reasoning was simple and profound: he knew that what brought him to that stage would not be enough to take him to the next one.
So, let me ask you honestly: are you comfortable where you are? Or do you genuinely want your next level?
You can answer that one in your own mind. But answer it truthfully.
What the Tech Space Is Really Like
Let us talk about the tech industry with full honesty because it deserves that.
The tech space is booming and the opportunities are real. But if you are not absolutely serious about succeeding in it, that will show. This is an industry that rewards resilience, relentless curiosity, and a willingness to do significantly more work than the person sitting next to you.
You have to show up more. You have to learn more. You have to reach out more. You have to build and nurture relationships with people already in the industry, senior developers, senior product managers, recruiters, community builders. The connections you make now are not just nice to have. They are often the difference between an opportunity finding you and an opportunity passing you by entirely.
Here is something worth paying attention to: there are a lot of people applying for roles right now. But there are very few people reaching out directly to recruiters. Very few people sending thoughtful messages to senior professionals asking genuine questions. Very few people consistently showing up on LinkedIn and other platforms sharing their journey, their learning, and their perspective.
That gap is your opportunity.
Be the person who does what most people will not. Understand that getting into tech requires everything you have got. And then understand that once you get in, the work to remain relevant never actually stops. The game does not end when you land the offer. It simply moves to a new level.
That is why your passion and your purpose matter so much. If you still feel like you have comfortable backup options you are not fully committed to yet. And that is okay to acknowledge. But it is also a signal worth paying attention to.
A Personal Word
August 28th has always been my birthday. The day my mama brought me into this world.
But this birthday was different from every one that came before it.
My mother was not here to call me. Not here to pray over me or call me by those sweet names and titles that only a mother uses. I lost her on the 27th of July and nothing has been quite the same since.
There are moments where I catch myself thinking I just need to go back home and she will be there, ready to welcome me through the door. The way she always was.
To everyone who reached out during that period, I am deeply grateful. Your kindness meant more than I can properly express.
She gave us her whole life. We are her legacy. And we will carry her with us forever.
